Happy Tuesday, Friends! I am so excited to share today’s post with you because Hemp Hearts have been something I’ve been incorporating into everyday meals for years and years – from way before my time as a blogger! And I have always turned to Manitoba Harvest for their amazing Hemp Hearts! So today’s post is all about how you can have Hemp Hearts All Day!
Hemp Hearts do not just have to be for breakfast – you can include them in your lunch, dinner, baking, snacks – you name it!
I love making smoothie bowls. I love being able to throw things together in a bowl and call it a meal! Smoothie bowls are simple and easy to do at any time of the day. Just throw some frozen fruit and yogurt or milk in a blender ( add some Hemp Protein, if you like) and then top with granola, fruit and of course… Hemp Hearts! I ALWAYS include hemp hearts in my smoothie bowls; their yummy nutty flavour is so tasty, they add a great texture, and of course, they a jam-packed with TONS of nutrition! In just 3 tablespoons they contain 10g of Protein and 10g of omega-3 and omega-6 fats (these fats are SO IMPORTANT for normal brain function!) AND they also have fibre, along with other essential nutrients!
Hemp is literally a super plant and has hundreds, probably thousands of uses! Not only can you incorporate hemp into smoothie bowls, but you can add it to your baking! I am a sucker for home-made muffins – I love having one for a midmorning snack! Bran, apple-cinnamon, you name it! I always add Hemp Hearts into my muffin batter and garnish with them as well! This way, I know I am incorporating essential nutrients into a yummy snack! I always stick with Hemp because they have twice as much protein compared to both flax seeds and chia seeds, yet they are lower in carbohydrates… what does this mean? Protein helps us to stay fuller for longer by slowing down digestion (which can aid in weight management), and of course, we need protein to build muscle, so adding it in wherever I can is a must!
My go-to lunch is half an avocado, smashed on toast with hemp hearts, a balsamic drizzle and some red chili flakes – sounds fancy right? Really, it’s a simple grab-and-go that I can put together at work! Of course, I always make sure to have a packet of hemp hearts around which can make it easy! I like to use Manitoba Harvest Toasted Hemp Seeds in Sea Salt – these are SO INCREDIBLE. They add a delightful crunch and a little bit of salt taking your basic avocado toast to the next level! If you ask me, I am actually surprised that Hemp has not been termed as a “Super Food” yet – it ticks off all the right boxes. Low in carbohydrates, high in protein, high in omega fats, high in fibre, tasty, versatile – the list goes on and on!
Another way I use Hemp Seeds are in ALL of my salads. One, because it adds a crunchy texture. Two, because of their yummy taste. And three, because of the nutrition it adds. Hemp Seeds contain 10 essential amino acids, as well as phosphorus, iron, magnesium, and zinc! They make salads a more balanced meal by adding protein and healthy fats! Next time you make a salad, try Manitoba Harvest Toasted Hemp Seeds in Sriracha – you will not be disappointed!
Now… time for dessert. Similar to baking, you can add Hemp Seeds to any recipe! I made Gluten Free Cake Pops for a holiday party, and instead of decorating with sprinkles, I decided to use HEMP HEARTS! People literally went insane over them!
Other ways you can use Hemp Seeds? Waffles, Soups, Fries and just about everything in between. Make sure to check out my Instagram to see Hemp Hearts being used in Breakfast Waffles, Sweet Potatoe Fries, and a yummy winter soup!
Do you also love Hemp Hearts? For a chance to win an AMAZING Manitoba Harvest Prize Pack, comment your favourite way to use hemp hearts, or how you plan to try them out if you were to win! As you can see, I love sprinkling them on everything I eat!
With Love, Meg
